Now don't get me wrong both games are good games. But if you had to pick one which would you prefer? The original for the Playstation? Or the remake for the Nintendo Gamecube? First off my hat is off to Dave the voice actor of Snake for getting most of the original cast for this remake it just wouldn't be the same without them. But if I had to choose between them I would have to go with the original. It just seems the voice acting performance is done better on that one than the remake. Let me give a few examples:
When you're in the Cargo Elevator after fighting Liquid in the Hind Hal (Yeah I call him Hal because it's cute. ) is telling you four of his stealth cameos are missing. In the PS1 he yells out the following line, "Watch out Snake! The men who stole my stealth are in there with you!" yeah something like that. Couldn't remember it all too well to quote it word for word. In the remake he says this calmly... No emotion at all and that ruined the scene for me. Another one is when Snake is talking to Sniper Wolf and he says the line in reply to Wolf, "I'll die after I kill you." that line just seemed better acted out in the PS1 then the remake to me. And Meryl sounds tougher in the PS1 version than in the remake to me for some reason. Maybe the case of deja vu made them not feel they had to try as hard, I dunno.
And does Mei Ling have the same VA in both or not? Because if she does then she totally strip herself of the ascent she had in the PS1 version. Though the game clips on the remake is obviously better than the PS1 version with more action in it. But some of the boss fights are easier and some moment in the remake are easier. Like the sensors you're trying to get pass after you leave the Tanker. You can just shoot the source of the sensors and walk across with no problem. In the PS1 you didn't have this option so it was a bit more challenging. Not very hard when you get the hang of it but still a bit more challenging. The Tank fight is a bit more easier in the remake because you have a crawling place where you can be safe from getting run over and throw chaff grenades with ease.
Even the torture room (for me anyway) was easier. Because in the PS1 version I could never press the circle button fast enough to resist the torture without dying or having to give up. In the remake the time went by faster. I'm not complaining over that... It was refreshing to get the "GOOD" ending for once! (blah!) And Liquid for me anyway was harder to fight hand to hand in the PS1 version. And the music to my taste is better in the PS1 version. Like when you're caught and the boss fights and the main themes.
So yeah I choose PS1 the original version. Which do you prefer and why? ^_^
